Depart the pier, hotel or your choice location to Tomar where one of the most important synagogues in Portugal remains in use since 1496, the date when the order was given to expel the Jews from Portugal. Today it houses the Jewish Museum Abraham Zacuto and demonstrates the importance of the Jewish population in this city.
In the 20th century, through the efforts of Samuel Schwartz, the synagogue was restored and given to the State, and since 1921 it has collected not only the documents and epigraphs of the local heritage but also tombstones with Hebraic inscriptions from other parts of the country.
On the top of the hill, the Convent of Christ is located, a UNESCO World Heritage site which is the bastion of one of the most important religious orders in Portugal. Here you can visit the Church of Santa Maria do Olival where the tombs of the grand masters of the Templars in Portugal rest, this is the main testimony of templar tradition in Portugal.
Head west to Batalha to visit the magnificent 14th century gothic Church of Santa Maria da Victoria. Enjoy additional time in Batalha for exploring before rejoining your private van and returning to Lisbon.
